Cookies are tiny text files that are stored on a user’s computer to provide a better user experience.

Common examples

Common examples of the data cookies store are user preferences, e-store information, shopping cart contents, login state, form input data and anonymised tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics.

How long are cookies stored?

Some Cookies expire after a set amount of time, these are called temporary cookies.
Other Cookies can be stored indefinitely until the user clears their browsing data, these are called persistent cookies.

Disable cookies

The user can disable cookies in their browser preferences however, this can break the main features of certain websites and they will become unusable.

woocommerce cookies

This site uses WooCommerce a WordPress e-commerce plugin.

To keep track of cart data, WooCommerce makes use of 3 cookies:

woocommerce_cart_hash
woocommerce_items_in_cart
wp_woocommerce_session_

The first two cookies contain information about the cart as a whole and help WooCommerce know when the cart data changes. The final cookie (wp_woocommerce_session_) contains a unique code for each customer so that it knows where to find the cart data in the database for each customer. No personal information is stored within these cookies.
